Arlington County Releases Draft Framework of Missing Middle Housing Study Phase 2

Arlington’s Missing Middle Housing Study: Expanding Housing Choice has entered Phase 2, which examines a variety of housing types. Phase 2 includes a draft policy Framework and new opportunities for community engagement. The Alliance for Housing Solutions supports additional Missing Middle Housing in Arlington and believes it is an important part of making housing more financially attainable throughout our community. We encourage you to provide your feedback on the draft Framework to [email protected].

The Phase 2 Draft Framework objectives include:

  • More housing options for more people at more income levels and in more stages of life

  • More housing types distributed throughout Arlington

  • More equitable housing options

Next Steps

County Planning Staff will incorporate community input into the refined Missing Middle Policy Framework in time for a briefing to the County Board around July 1, 2022. From there, Phase 3—the implementation of the policy and zoning recommendations adopted in Phase 2—will be presented to the County Board for a vote by the end of 2022.
